NCDOT christens America 250 locomotive
A newly refurbished locomotive featuring an America 250 commemorative NC By Train paint scheme is showcased during a christening ceremony at the NCDOT Rail Division Capital Yard Maintenance Facility in Raleigh on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The 45-year-old engine, one of eight that move Amtrak Piedmont trains between Raleigh and Charlotte, recently returned from a months-long overhaul where nearly every piece was rehabbed or replaced and will soon go into service.
