ICE agents took Gabriel Johnson III, a 55-year-old pastor, into custody outside his Cary home on July 15. Around two weeks later, he suffered a stroke in ICE custody in Texas — one that his daughter, Gabri Johnson, says paralyzed the left side of his body. Gabri and her family are now rallying on social media to safeguard his recovery and prevent the U.S. from deporting him. Gabri posted a video on July 31 alleging her father had been denied food, water and his stroke medication for weeks before the stroke. Her video has roughly 6.3 million views across Instagram and TikTok as of Friday. Her family started a GoFundMe to cover Johnson’s legal and medical costs that had raised over $8,000 as of Friday.
